Young people today are more focused than ever on staying in touch with friends and making connections. Social media such as Twitter, YouTube, MySpace, and Facebook are all the rage. Add ‘texting’ to that list and you see how much of your son or daughter’s time is spent connecting with others. As parent’s, we need to help guide them into positive activities and provide information that leads to success in school, the workplace and in life.

Staying in touch with friends is important, but getting a good education and making the right career connections is what the Opening Doors Parents’ Expo is all about. With interactive displays from 17 Manitoba industry sectors representing over 3,000 employers, the Opening Doors Parents’ Expo will give you the tools to help your children make the right connections for the right career.

The Opening Doors Parents’ Expo is part of Manitoba Career Week and is an open house format. Doors open at 10:00 A.M until 3:00 P.M. Admission is free, and everyone in attendance will receive a special Parents’ Career Planning Tool Kit. This easy to use CD-ROM will assist parents in helping their children discover a variety of careers in Manitoba. The Tool Kit also provides valuable information about education and training paths, financial aid and scholarships, and employment services.
