AMYC Alumni-Only Workshop - Social Media 2: Making Your Website Work for You-Event Details

February 15, 2012

Hosted by: ACI Manitoba

Location: ,

Date: February 15, 2012 from 6-9pm
Location: Anhang Room at the Millennium Library
Cost: $25 for AMYC students; $50 for 3 classes

Topic: Making Your Website Work for You

You have a website or are just about ready to get one up. This is an important step in an artist’s career. Your website showcases your talent and your story to the world. Literally. Through your website, you can expand your fan and client base beyond Winnipeg to Wundham, Wuxi and Washington. During this workshop, we’ll review your website and offer you feedback on how to make it world-class. You’ll receive feedback on the structure, its usability and its content. You’ll be able to fine-tune the words and polish its look. Once that’s done, you’ll be able to get back to your artwork, knowing that your website is working for you.

Instructor: Nathalie Kleinschmit

Nathalie’s first company, Global’Ease, offers consulting and training services for international business development: management, mobility, customer service and professional communication. She has personally welcomed more than 10 000 managers from 90 countries to her workshops.

After twenty years in Europe, Nathalie returned to Winnipeg with her family. A member of the Manitoba Writers Guild, ACI and PWAC, she now focuses her time on writing, course development, and mentoring new trainers and working with artists. She launched ArtsGrove in 2009 to focus on business and financial growth for self-employed artists.

February 16, 2012

Hosted by: ACI Manitoba

Location: ,

Date: Thursday, February 16, 2012
Time: 7-9 pm
Location: MAWA (611 Main Street)
Cost: Free for MAWA and ACI members; $10 for non-members; open to all

Many exhibition centres offer an annual “call for submissions”. This is an opportunity for you to pitch a body of work you would like to show. This workshop will cover the essentials of applying for an exhibition at an artist-run centre or similar gallery. Although this workshop will not guarantee you success, it will ensure that your application is clear and user-friendly: essential ingredients to success. The workshop will include choosing an appropriate centre to apply to, writing your cover letter, artist statement, and project proposal, as well as arranging your support material. It will help you to look at your application from a juror’s or programmer’s point of view.

Instructor: hannah_g

Narrative is at the heart of her practice, whether it is in the magic realist stories she makes in response to environments and conversations, or public space interventions created to spark dialogue about enchantment and social justice. hannah uses writing, stickering, sound, storytelling, collage, chalking, stencils and postering to this end. She has performed and exhibited in Canada, Belgium, England, Vienna and Romania.

Life and Artmergencies: Limitless Thinking for the Successful Artist-Event Details

CloseLife and Artmergencies: Limitless Thinking for the Successful Artist6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

February 29, 2012

Hosted by: ACI Manitoba

Location: ,

Date: February 29, 2012
Time: 6:30-8:30pm
Location: Anhang room - Millennium Library (251 Donald Ave)
Cost: Free for ACI members; $5 for non-members

Is it possible that our success as artists can be influenced by how we think? How important is it to open our thinking to be successful? In this workshop, we will examine 4 points that will make or break our careers:

  1. Time
  2. People
  3. Goals
  4. Fear vs. gratitude

Find out the part that each one plays in helping us create our own success. We will also examine the role that right or left brain dominance has in our creative lives and how to use it to push ourselves forward. Everything we need for success is already present in our brains right now. All we have to do is unleash it.

Presenter: Talia Pura

Talia Pura is an actor, teacher, writer, dancer, filmmaker and arts administrator. She has made many appearances on stage and in films; one of her most notable being in Guy Maddin’s Saddest Music in the World. In addition to teaching drama at the University of Winnipeg, Talia has written plays, screenplays and a book, STAGES: Creative Ideas for Teaching Drama, which is in its sixth printing. Her passion is aerial dance on silks; she recently completed a film commission of her dancing on silks for CODE - the cultural component of the Vancouver Olympics. Talia is the Mentorship Coordinator for ACI Manitoba’s youth mentorship in the arts program.
